Coastal-plain sand may drain quickly, yet a high water table can still complicate a drain. In other areas, clay over rock asks the supporting part of a hardscape to carry the load. #89 Crushed Stone is for tight finishing areas after that support is handled, not for open drainage. The angular crushed material includes fines, which lets it bind firmly under compaction.
Set #89 Crushed Stone beneath flagstone or sweep it into spaces between pavers, then compact it once it is fully placed. That helps the material settle into the confined area instead of staying loose at the surface. It is also suitable for chip-seal applications and concrete mixes. Keeping its role separate from drainage planning is useful where ground conditions change across the state.
